No prior knowledge of Swedish is required.
This course puts emphasis on everyday Swedish and is designed with the absolute beginner in mind. The main objective of the course is to give an ability to use the Swedish language to communicate and exchange basic information. The course will start with the fundamentals such as the alphabet and numbers. You will continue to build vocabulary and incorporate some grammar to create sentences. There will be plenty of opportunities to practice pronunciation.
After this course, you should be able to:
- use greetings and farewells and introduce yourself;
- pronounce in a way that people will understand you;
- talk about yourself, family, leisure time, studies, work, weather, etc.;
- use basic structures for communication, asking questions, shopping etc.;
- use basic structures for making plans and arrangements;
- understand basic, naturally-spoken Swedish and participate in simple conversations;
- read basic texts;
- understand simple written messages, e.g., on the street, in stores, cafés etc.; and
- write simple messages, text messages, etc. in Swedish.
And finally, you will also be introduced to some Swedish traditions, culture and fun facts. Short video clips, games and team work will bring another lighter aspect to this course.

I wish there was something like this north of Toronto. My mother is Swedish but never taught me and have always wanted to learn.
Hey, would the same Swedish class be offered starting from April? Also, would there be any chance of a Saturday or Sunday class? Thank you.
Thank you for your inquiry. We are offering Swedish levels I and II starting in May. The following is the schedule:
12-WEEK COURSE SCHEDULE
TUESDAYS & WEDNESDAYS
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
May 9/10 to July 25/26, 2017
I am a true polyglot, i.e. I am fluent in 8 languages and I have a basic knowledge, i.e. between 5000-10000 words, in another additional 15 languages. I would like to have a course in Swedish because I will give a lecture in law at the Stockholm University in September 2017. Wouldn’t there be a way to combine Swedish level I, level II and level III for a course that’d last for about 2 months? Yes, I know it requires a lot of work, and yes, I do know how learning a language may be demanding but please believe that I fully understand what it implies in terms of efforts and dedication (based on what I said initially about my grasp of languages). Please keep me posted. Thanks!
I am very interested into taken the Swedish course, due to I’m moving to Sweden in November. Would it be an intense course from August or september until the end of October
Unfortunately, our courses go from mid-September to beginning of December (12 weeks, once a week). Wishing you luck on your move!
Hi, I am registered for the Winter 2020 Swedish I class which starts tonight! However, no one has emailed me to let me know the location of the class. Please let me know soonest.
